JERSEY CITY, NJ — Volunteers from Nanak Naam Jahaj Gurdwara prepared and distributed meals to approximately 10,000 individuals across more than 70 shelters in New Jersey and New York under their “Let Share a meal” initiative, in a large-scale community effort rooted in a tradition centered on service and equality.
The Sikh Awareness Month and Vaisakhi initiative honor the Sikh wisdom of langar, the tradition of serving free meals to anyone, regardless of background. Preparation started on Friday evening, April 17, inside the gurdwara as volunteers, young and old, stayed up late cooking, assembling, and packaging food.
By early Saturday morning, teams were ready for distribution, with the first dispatch leaving at 7:30 a.m……
